Cyril C. Hoyt, Jr. 1926-2011 ARLINGTON, VT Cyril Clark Hoyt, Jr., 84, a lifelong resident of Arlington, passed away at his home on may 19, 2011. Cyril was born in Arlington on September 8, 1926, the son of Cyril Sr., and Rose (Willis) Hoyt. He graduated from Arlington Memorial High School and attended the University of Vermont. He served in the US Army/Air Corps during World War II where he was stationed in Japan. He married the former Barbara Thayer on July 31, 1948. Cyril began his working career as a carpenter, working for several different contractors. He eventually opened his own general contracting business and retired from that on September 8, 1996. Cyril was a member of the Arlington Lions Club where he was a "Melvin Jones Fellow." He was also a member of the Masonic Temple Red Mountain Lodge, a 60 year member of the American Legion Post 69, the Harned-Fowler VFW Post 6471. He was also a 50 year member of the Arlington Fire Department. He was presented the "Community Service Award" by the West Arlington Grange, their first, back in the early 1980's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed playing basketball in his younger years. Cyril is survived by his wife Barbara of Arlington, his sons; Gordon G Hoyt and John W. Hoyt, both of Arlington, his daughter and son-in-law; Helen Rose and Gerald W. Woodard, of Arlington, his grandchildren; Jonathon Hoyt and his wife, Kristina, Julie Elizabeth Hoyt, Kelsey Alyse Hoyt and Nicholas James Woodard, all of Arlington and Gerald William Hoyt, II of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law; Theodore and Margaret Hoyt, of North Carolina, James and Brenda Hoyt of Georgia, Ralph and Verna Hoyt of Rupert, VT, Thomas and Joan Hoyt of N. Bennington, Vt., Fred and Sheila Hoyt of Arlington, Gene and Ann Hoyt of Arlington and Duane and Corrine Hoyt of West Virginia, his sisters; Irene Burke of Shaftsbury, Vt., and Ann, and her husband Joseph, Bennini of Maine, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 24, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Federated Church of East Arlington. There will be no calling hours.
