Obituary Condolences

SEARSBURG -- Damon James McDermott, 79, a resident of Washington Street in Bennington, died Sunday evening Dec. 12, 2004, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Mr. McDermott was born in Wilmington on Dec. 6, 1925. He was the son of the late James and Ethel (Whalen) McDermott. He grew up in Searsburg where he attended the former River School House. He had worked as a logger for many area loggers and had also worked for the town of Searsburg highway department and cemetery department. At one time he had served as a cemetery commissioner for the town of Searsburg. Mr. McDermott enjoyed country music and hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his sister, Josephine Kilbride of Searsburg, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Inez McDermott and brothers, Ralph, Thomas and William McDermott.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington on Saturday Dec. 18, 2004, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Douglas LaPlante, pastor of the Wilmington Baptist Church, officiating. There are no calling hours.
