Obituary Condolences

BENSON -- Word has been received of the death of David E. Bosworth in Vernon, N.Y., of natural causes.

He was born on Oct. 6, 1951, in Rutland, the son of Elliott and Ruth (King) Bosworth. He graduated from Fair Haven Union High School in 1969.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1970 to 1972.

The majority of his life was spent driving and training standardbred horses throughout New England and New York state tracks. He especially enjoyed racing at the Rutland State Fair. It was like a “homecoming to him.” He started racing ponies when he was 12-years-old at the Mendon Pony Track in Mendon.

He was a member of the Benson United Church and the U.S. Trotting Association.

Survivors include his mother; a son, David Welch of Bennington; a sister, Carol and her husband Raymond Richards of West Haven; a niece Erica and her husband Anthony Colutti of Poultney; other nieces, Sue Ann Richards of Rutland, Marcia and her husband Chris Feiereisen, Amy and her husband Eric Hults, and a nephew, Michael Richards. He also has three great-nephews and a great-niece.

He was predeceased by his father in 1968 and a sister, Joan, in 1979.

A memorial service will be held in the Benson United Church on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church downstairs.
