PETERSBURGH, N.Y. -- David G. Broadwell, Sr., 80, of Route 22 died on Tuesday at Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington, Vt.

Born in Westfield, Mass., on June 23, 1925, he was the son of the late Carl J. and Jessie R. Miller Broadwell. He was the loving husband of the former Margaret E. Findley, whom he married on Dec. 21, 1944. He had been a resident of Petersburgh since 1969.

Mr. Broadwell attended Massachusetts schools and left early to work on his father’s farm. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in Normandy. After his marriage, he drove hay and lumber trucks from Massachusetts to Canada. When he relocated to Petersburgh, he was self-employed, owning a sawmill and lumber company. He loved his Red Sox and bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret E. Broadwell; four children, Margaret E. Chase of Wilmington, Vt., Jessie M. Morgan of Newport News, Va., Mary Ann Johnson of Bennington, Vt., and Raymond H. Broadwell of Petersburgh; a nephew, Carlos A.R. Casey of Waynesboro, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Edna.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at noon from the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh with the Rev. Gaylord “Jake” Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be in the funeral home on Tuesday starting at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crescent Manor Nursing Home’s Activity Fund.
