David E. King 1943-2010 POWNAL David E. King, 67, a former resident of Pownal Center and more recently of Port Charlotte, Florida, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte following a long illness. Born in Boston October 4, 1943, he was the son of the late Arthur W. King and Rev. Isabella (Greer) King. David received his education in the Williamstown, Pownal and Bennington schools. A veteran of both the U. S. Navy and U. S. Army, he also served 20 years in the U. S. Merchant Marines until the time of his retirement. An avid ham radio operator, David held his radio operators license for 54 years. He was devoted to his three dogs, Mikey, Ziggy and Ladybug. The family would like to thank a group of special friends of David that helped and stayed with him during his last days and hours, Kevin Courtney, Joseph Galati, Brenda Hope and Jerry O'Ghesby. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Rae and Gary Bronson of Bennington; two nieces and a nephew, Terri McClusky of Orangeburg, New York, Greer Gallant of Bennington and Walter Clark of Pownal; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.
