POWNAL -- Mr. David Laurie Vince, 71, a resident of Burrington Road, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington Aug. 8, 1934. He was the son of the late Michael J. and Annie Laurie (Gavin) Vince. David received his education in Bennington and was a 1954 graduate of Bennington High School. In 1955 he joined the United States Air Force, in which he served until Feb. 27, 1963, when he was honorably discharged.

In 1976 he married the former Barbara Reece at the Pownal United Methodist Church.

For 29 years, David was employed at Johnson Controls in Bennington, from which he retired. He later worked for the Bennington County Meals on Wheels program. David enjoyed painting pictures and creating sculptures. He also enjoyed watching television and spending time at home.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Vince of Pownal; a son, Robert Vince of Bennington; a daughter, Kelly Carbonaro of Shaftsbury; a stepdaughter, Tammy Sohl, and a stepson, Joel Burrington, both of Pownal; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Shepard of Bennington; and a brother; Michael Vince of Bennington; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of David Laurie Vince will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating.

The burial with military honors will take place on Friday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery.
