Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mr. David Perle Monroe Sr., 67, a resident of Bennington, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington on Aug. 19, 1939. He was the son of the late Lewis and Gertrude (Carpenter) Monroe Sr.

He received his education in the White Creek, N.Y., and Bennington schools.

David was well known as a very good mechanic. He always wanted to make sure that his children knew how to take care of their own cars, and he taught them well. In earlier years, David, along with his brother, was a race car driver at Lebanon Valley, where he drove his Chevy with his number 666. Over the years, David had built several race cars. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Brown, of Wynantskill, N.Y.; two sons, David Monroe Jr. and Rick Monroe, both of Bennington; his former wife, Pauline Monroe, of Bennington; eight grandchildren, Edward Brown Jr., Irene Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Nathanael Brown, Joshua Monroe, Chris Monroe, Nellie Monroe and Megan Monroe; two brothers, Lewis “Sonny” Monroe Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Walloomsac, N.Y.; and David’s twin, Donald Monroe, of Shaftsbury Hollow; a sister, Linda Hunt and her husband, Jim, of Newsville, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Lee Williams of the Capstone Baptist Church officiating.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Rosewood Cemetery, White Creek, N.Y.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 12 to 2 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.
