David R. Stevens 1947-2008 MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA David Roland Stevens, 60, a resident of Houghton Lane in Bennington, died February 26, 2008 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. Born in Lyndonville, Vt. on March 9, 1947, son of Wallace and Norma Gray Stevens, he attended local schools, graduated from Lyndon Institute and attended RPI in Troy, N.Y. David worked for Johnson Controls in Bennington for 24 years and then worked as a self-employed truck driver. David was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era and served in the Vermont Army National Guard for six years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and archery. He was one of the 13 charter members of the Catamount Bow Hunting Club. In his earlier years he also enjoyed cross country skiing. He was a Boston Red Sox baseball fan and a Green Bay Packers football fan. He leaves his wife, the former Judy Beers, of Bennington; two sons, David Andrew Stevens of Bennington, owner of Stevens Roofing and Siding, and his fiancé, Aileen Butler, of Mt. Holly and Kurtis George Stevens of Bennington; his daughter, Angela Lynn Stevens of Bennington; his mother, Norma Stevens, of Alabama; two brothers, Frank and Paul Stevens; and four sisters, Brenda, Jeanie, Joanie and Joyce. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for David R. Stevens will be held Saturday March 8, 2008 at Noon at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main Street in Bennington. Reverend John Goyette, pastor of the Green Mountain Christian Center, will conduct the service. Calling hours will be held Friday evening March 7, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m . at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, when the family will be in attendance.
