1944 - 2016 BENNINGTON, VT David Edward Wellspeak, age 72, a resident of Bennington died on Monday evening, October 3, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Hoosick Falls, NY on June 18, 1944 and was the son of the late Jerry D. and Catherine (Davis) Wellspeak. He was educated at St. Francis Elementary School and graduated from Bennington Catholic High School. He married the former Karen Betit on October 25, 1975. He is the father to four wonderful children; Jerry Wellspeak and his wife Pamela of Shaftsbury, VT, Michael Wellspeak of Shaftsbury, John Wellspeak and wife Taurie of Pownal, and Jamie Taber-O'Neill of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by two brothers; Jerry Moon and his wife Patricia of Bennington VT and James Moon of Bennington, VT also two sisters; Jean Jones and her husband William of Bennington, VT, and Sherry Robinson and her husband Winfield (Joe) of Arlington, VT. He leaves his grandchildren; Megan Wick-Albert, Catherine Brockelbank and her husband Andrew, Tori Wellspeak, Madison Taber, Erin Taber, Kalie Wellspeak, Kyle Wellspeak, David Wellspeak, Anja Wellspeak, and Daniel Wellspeak. David is predeceased by a sister Joan Peacock, and one brother, Jessie Moon. David was a lumberman and was employed at Gundrum Lumber in Petersburgh, NY for thirty-two years. He enjoyed his family and spending time outdoors, including fishing, camping and spending time at fairs. He had a passion for Draft Horses competitions. David and his Dad won many horse pulls throughout the region. He was a world record holder for seven year for heavy horse competitions during the 1960's. David built his own log home, and loved maple sugaring. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 8, 2016 at 1:00PM at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street in Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, October 7, from 6 until 8PM. Contributions may be made to the Cancer Crusaders at Southwestern Vermont Health Care, 100 Hospital Drive, Bennington VT 05201 or the Bayada Nursing, 194 North Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Special thanks to the Bayada Association, Dr. Ives, and all the nurses at the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center and volunteers, as well as many family and friends for your support.
