KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- David William Hurley, 54, of 1205 Bob Kirby Rd., Knoxville, died of a massive heart attack July 19, 2005. David was born on Aug. 21, 1950. He grew up in Bennington, Vt., where he received his education.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Adams Hurley; mother, Joan A. Bourgeois Hurley Dorman; brother, Wilfred, and wife Virginia Hurley; sisters, Donna Wooley, Gertrude, and husband Sam Hulbert, Yvonne and husband Kevin Clark, Jo-Ann Hurley and friend, David Conklin; children, Laura and husband Kenneth Mattingly, Paul Hurley and Nichole Shull, and Diertra Hurley; grandchildren, Dustin Shult, David, Kenneth Jr. and Lora Kay Mattingly, Shawn Perry Shull, Austin, Ethan, Aliya, Isaiha, Kyle Kabler and Devin Hurley; two step-brothers and two step-sisters; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by a father, Kenneth George Hurley Sr.; step-father, Phillip A. Dorman; brothers, Paul E. Hurley and Kenneth G. Hurley Jr.

David was a previous member of the U.S. Marines. He worked at U.S. Tsubaki, Inc., in Bennington before moving to Tennessee in 1996. Most recently he was employed at Cardinal Health Company in Karns.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved spending time with all his grandchildren. He also loved country and bluegrass music. In his earlier years he played in the bluegrass group The Dixie Grass, and the Country Drifters band.

Services were held Monday, July 25, at the Stevens Chapel in Knoxville, Tenn.

Contributions in David’s memory would be most appreciated to go toward a fund for his grandchild, Ethan Hurley, who at the age of 6 months requires heart surgery.
