CULPEPER, Va. -- Deborah P. Hicks Axelrod, 48, died Friday Oct. 31, 2003 at the home of her sister in Manchester, Vt. She fought a courageous battle with brain cancer. She died with loving family at her bedside. She was born in Chester County, Pa., the daughter of John and Anne (Irwin) Hicks. She graduated from Unionville High School and Garland College in Boston.

She was married to Steve Axelrod and gave birth to their wonderful son Joshua, who was her best friend and caregiver when Deborah was in need. She touched the hearts of many, seeking their compassion, joy, spirit and soul. She died completing her mission of tender genuine love. Even in her final days she still ruled the roost with her spirit and smiles. The night before her death, the Northern Lights called her home. “Keep a simple and tender spot for People” (Pema Citödrön).

Deborah is survived by her mother Anne Hicks of Chester County; her grandmother Hilda Martin of West Grove, Pa.; her son Joshua Axelrod of Pawlet, Vt.; her sister Sissy Hicks of Dorset, Vt.; her brothers, Bobby Hicks and Billy Hicks, both of Unionville, Pa. She was predeceased by her father, John L. Hicks and her brother, John L. Hicks Jr.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at the London Grove Meeting House in London Grove, Pa.
