Obituary Condolences

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. -- Dennis J. Sausville, 60, of Barney Road, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany following a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Troy on March 15, 1944, son of the late Clarence “Kay” and Margaret Gallagher Sausville. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He continued his education while serving in the United States Air Force, where he entered into the communications field. This introduced him into his career starting with AT&T and continued throughout the restructuring of the Bell System, retiring from Verizon in December 2001 after 35 years of service.

Dennis was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church, where he had served in the past as a lector and eucharistic minister.

He is a past commander of the American Legion Post 1450 in Halfmoon and was a lifetime member. He was a member of the Hoosick Falls Elks Club. Dennis was also a member of the Communication Workers of America.

Dennis had the love of the outdoors that truly shined through in his landscaping, gazebo and beautiful flower gardens. Before the onset of his illness, he volunteered at the Yaddo Gardens in Saratoga Springs. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends and was proud of the fact that he made a hole-in-one at the fairways of Halfmoon Golf Course and of late, became somewhat of a fisherman. Fortunately, Elaine and Dennis enjoyed traveling and were able to visit many places in the United States as well as Europe.

Dennis was the beloved husband of Elaine (Seifert) Sausville, whom he married June 14, 1969, cherished father of Mrs. Daniel (Jennifer) Logan of Canandaigua and loving grandfather of Natalie and Lily Logan. He was a brother of Mrs. Stephen (Barbara) Johnson of Hoosick Falls and Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Sturtz of LaGrange, Ill. He was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Nathaleen Tukey and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Seifert. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousin, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Dennis always put family first and family celebrations were a highlight in his life.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park and thence to St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park, where at 10 a.m. the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment with full military honors will be on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Contributions may be made in Dennis’ memory to St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, 315 Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208 or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN), 2221 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 131, El Segundo, CA 90245.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065, 518-371-5454.
