SHELBURNE FALLS, Mass. -- Donald A. Faufaw Jr., 64, of 117 Elm St., died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, April 26, 2007.

Don was born in Brattleboro, Vt., on Oct. 22, 1943, the son of Donald A. and Lucy E. (Sage) Faufaw. He was a graduate of Wilmington (Vt.) High School, class of 1962. He later graduated from Greenfield Community College in 1970 and then received a bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 1972.

Don served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970, attaining the rank of sergeant.

On July 8, 1967, Don married Cheryl Burnett.

Don was a paramedic with American Medical Response in Springfield. He began his career as an EMT with the Shelburne Falls Ambulance, and then moved on to BHS Ambulance before obtaining his certification as a paramedic with AMR. Don truly enjoyed his work, helping people in their time of need.

Prior to becoming a paramedic, Don’s first career was in banking, most recently at the former Shawmut Bank.

An avid skier, Don was a member of the Ski Patrol at Berkshire East in Charlemont. He also taught many ski lessons over the years at various ski areas.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outside, He was a member of the former Mohawk Men’s Softball League playing for the VFW Post team.

Don was a member of the Ashfield American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years; his mother, of Bennington, Vt.; two daughters, Kristie L. Faufaw and her husband, Michael Sisum, of Hawley, Debra A. Collazo and her husband, Michael, of Springfield; six grandchildren, Emily Sisum, Keisha, Anthony, Korey, Michayla and Isabella Collazo; a brother, Kenneth Faufaw, of South Hero, Vt.; a sister, Jane Bruneau, of Shaftsbury, Vt.; a niece and two nephews.

A funeral service will take place Tuesday, May 1, at 10 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls. The Rev. Kate Stevens will preside. Burial services will follow in Howland Cemetery, Conway.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
