Donald L. Brown

1930-2012 Donald L. Brown, 81, of Windsor Locks, Conn., loving husband of Marguerite (Gale) Brown passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at home with his family by his side.

Don was born December 12, 1930, in West Arlington, Vt., the loving son of the late Harry W. Brown, Sr. and Etta (Sharkey) Brown Tyo. Don graduated from Arlington Memorial High School Class of 1948.

After high school Don joined the Army Air Corps serviced from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. Don was stationed in Nevada and was responsible for removing radiation sensors from airplanes that flew through areas after the detonation of the Atomic Bomb. He worked at Pratt and Whitney as an airplane mechanic from 1952 to 1958, Kaman Aircraft as Lead Supervisor in the Quality Control Department, then as a Supernumerary Police Officer with the Town of Windsor Locks and retired from the Connecticut Water Company in 1990. Donald was a Third Degree Mason with the Composite Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Suffield, CT and a member of the American Legion Gensi-Viola Post 36 of Windsor Locks. He enjoyed reading, household and automotive repairs, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Marguerite he is also survived by a daughter, Cynthia L. Dakin and her husband, William of Andover, Conn.; four grandchildren, Jessica L. Boldyga and her husband Nicholas of Southwick, Mass., Lindsay G. Dakin of Brooklyn, N.Y., Allison T. Poirier and her husband Joshua of Enfield, Conn., and Samantha M. Shields and her husband, Patrick of Westford, Mass.; a great-grandson, Greyson L. Boldyga; a brother, Harry W. Brown of West Arlington, Vt., and many nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his siblings, George, David, William and Dale Brown, Marjorie Hess, Evelyn Sinay, Harriet Thompson, Alice Montgomery and Mary Colvin.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends can join the family on Thursday, September 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a funeral service at 6 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 1 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington, VT.
