Donald M. Burke 1935 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Donald M. Burke, 75, resident of Beech Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at his residence, following a long illness. Born in Bennington July 24, 1935, he was the son of the late Milo and Elizabeth Towslee Burke. Don received his education in Bennington and was a 1953 graduate of Bennington High School. He married the former Patricia A. Vail at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Sept. 15, 1956. Mrs. Burke died January 27, 1997, after 40 years of marriage. In earlier years, Don was employed at Home Furniture and then W.T. Grant's Department Store. He later was employed at Woolworth's in Bennington until the time of his retirement. An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cribbage with his good friend Billy Squires. He leaves a daughter, Barbara J. Bruso (Steven) of Bennington; two sons, Donald J. Burke (Wendy Nelson) and Michael J. Burke (Lana) of Bennington; five grandchildren, Jessica Granger (Todd), Ashley Bruso, Charlotte Burke, Brendan Burke and Caitlyn Burke; a step-grandson, Traig Bruso; three great-grandchildren, Colby and Reilly Granger and Parker Gregory; a sister-in-law, Peggy Monahan (Donald) of Rutland and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Mr. Burke was predeceased by a son, Edward Burke, and by two sisters, Judy Buck and Marcia Ryder. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at 12 p.m. at the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
