Donald E. Prouty, Jr. 1954-2011 NORTH POWNAL, VT Donald E. Prouty, 56, a resident of Dean Road in North Pownal, passed away Tuesday September 6, 2011 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Don was born in Lowell, Mass., on November 26, 1954 the son of the late Donald E. and Theresa Sophie Boucher Prouty, Sr. Don received his education in Lawrence, Massachusetts graduating from Lawrence High School. Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in Viet Nam, retiring after thirty years in the Corps as Master Gunnery Sergeant, (MGySgt). At the time of his death, Don was serving as Town Selectman in Pownal, where he was very active in town affairs and politics. Don also managed the Pownal Transfer Station. Don loved to go camping, restore cars and enjoyed a nice sunset with his wife Jean on their porch. Don loved his home and cherished times spent with his family. Don was a member of the Masons and the American Legion in Massachusetts. Don is survived by his wife, the former Jean L. Hurley of North Pownal whom he married in Bennington on October 4, 1975, his children; Shaun Prouty of North Pownal, Kristy Prouty and Nicole Prouty of North Pownal, his sister; Cheryl Molitor of Circle Pines, Minnesota and three grandchildren; Kylie Aricamay Prouty, Colin Martin Brady and Joseph William Carbonaro. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Don will be held Saturday afternoon September 10, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. Interment with full military honors will follow in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday September 9, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire.
