Donald Idleman Obituary
Donald Idleman

1940 - 2015 CAMBRIDGE, NY Donald Lee Idleman passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 at the age of 74. Don was born on November 8, 1940 in New Haven, CT. He was the son of Martha and Hillis Idleman. He lived in CT, PA and AK before settling in the towns of Easton and Cambridge in Washington County, NY. He graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in education and did graduate studies at several colleges in the capital district. Following one year of teaching in Maine, Don spent many years teaching middle school social studies at Hoosick Falls Central School. In keeping with his desire to work with young people, Don spent many winters teaching and coaching skiing, and summers teaching tennis to many area youth. Don was many things to so many people. He was a husband, father, step-father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, teacher, coach and friend. There was no one who knew Don who didn't enjoy spending time with him. He truly enjoyed the outdoors & nature, especially playing tennis, golfing, kayaking & skiing. He loved all animals, particularly dogs. In later years, Don took great pride in being a grandfather and making sure he was in attendance for as many activities and sporting events as possible from agricultural shows to soccer games and everything in between. He loved spending time with his family, and the grandchildren brought him so much joy. Don had a way of making every person he encountered feel comfortable and part of the conversation. He was a great listener, supportive, the voice of reason when needed and always the devils advocate, even if he agreed with you. He enjoyed the art of the back and forth of a conversation and loved making just the right comments to get you to reflect and speak your point of view. He was kind, caring, quietly courageous and will be missed by all who knew him. Don is survived by his wife, Kathleen, a daughter, Katherine Gulley (Chad) of Greenwich, NY; a son, Douglas Idleman(Jenny) of Roxbury, NY; a brother, Peter Idleman of Shelburne, VT; two step-daughters, Jennifer Ryan (Joseph) and Polly Cipperly (Daryl) of Hoosick Falls, NY; and a step-son , Luke Gallipo (Alyssa) of Hudson Falls, NY. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Helen Butler of Arlington, VT and nine grandchildren; Kaylah and Jordan Gulley; Atticus Idleman; Josh and Josie Ryan; Cole and Colin Cipperly; and Jack and Charlie Gallipo and several nieces & nephews. SERVICES: At Don's request, there will be no formal calling hours and there will be a private family burial. The celebration of life will be held at The Hoosick Falls Country Club on Sunday, November, 15th from 11:30-2:30.
