TEMPE, Ariz. -- Donald Joseph Lever, 73, of Tempe, passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2004. A retired carpenter, Donald was born in Bennington, Vt. on March 24, 1931. Donald is an ex-POW, held captive for 2 years and 9 months during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Army. He was a true hero.

Donald was married to Diana Foucher, the mother of his children. He is survived by his children, Donna Hartman, Vanessa Stitt, Roxana Davis, Victoria Porter, Melissa Lever, Donald Joseph Lever, Jr. and Michael Lever; his siblings, Hazel Tobin, Ester Pinsonneault and Kenneth Lever; his uncle Frank Monroe; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his companion Lucy Anaya. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Lever; one sister, Zane Tobin; one daughter, Linda Knapp; and two grandchidren, Francis Patrick Knapp Jr. and Donald Ray Porter.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Road, Mesa with the funeral service starting at 2:30 p.m. Military honors will be presented out in the garden as a final tribute to Donald. Contributions may be made to your local Disabled American Veterans.

His final resting place will be at the Grand View Cemetery in North Bennington, Vt.
