Donald J. Kearns

1929 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Donald J. Kearns, 80, a lifelong resident of Bennington, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, following a long illness.

Born in Bennington Oct. 16, 1929, son of the late William F. Kearns, Sr., and Katherine Toohey Kearns, he received his education in Bennington and was a 1947 graduate of Bennington High School. Mr. Kearns served in the Army during the Korean War. In earlier years, Don had been employed at General Cable and retired from the Stanley Tool Company in Shaftsbury.

Don was a member of the American Legion Post 1332 in Bennington and Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church.

He leaves a brother, William F.Kearns, Jr., of Walpole, N.H.; a niece, Maureen Grimmick of Clifton Park, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert F. Kearns and John P. Kearns, and a sister, Marie Camizzi .

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday Jan. 27, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m., where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. At the request of Mr. Kearns there will be no calling hours.
