Donald James Keough 1929-2011 ARLINGTON, VT Donald James Keough, 82, a resident of Arlington, Vermont, passed away Sunday March 13, 2011 at his home. Donald was born in Bennington, Vermont on March 13, 1929 the son of James and Flora (Gagnon). He received his education in Arlington schools, graduating from Arlington Memorial High School. After serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, Donald was employed as an operations planner for Union Carbide in Bennington, retiring after twenty-five years of service. Donald served as Arlington Auditor for twenty years and as a Town Selectman for eight years. Donald was also Town Lister and Justice of the Peace. He was one of the founding members the Arlington Parks and Recreation Committee, served on the Vermont State Development Board and received the Vermont Public Service Award for Bennington County in 2000. Donald loved all sports and formerly coached the Arlington Memorial High School Junior Varsity Basketball Team and also coached Little League. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, skiing, reading and was a very good singer. He loved his home and cherished times spent with his family. Donald was a member of the American Legion Arlington Post 69 and a member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department. Donald is survived by his children; Christopher Keough and his wife Patricia of South Burlington and Michael Keough and his wife Sonya of Arlington and his grandson Craig Keough of Saratoga Springs, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Janet Cross who died October 20, 2000, his son Craig Francis Keough who died in 1956 and his sisters Betty Cassidy and Ruth Zimmer. FUNERAL NOTICE: A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Thursday morning March 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Savior (St. Margaret Mary's) Catholic Church in Arlington. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Columbans Cemetery in Arlington. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening March 16, 2011 at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home Arlington Chapel Historic Route 7A Arlington, Vermont, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
