Donald L. Moffitt 1929 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY, VT Mr. Donald L. Moffitt, 79, a resident of Maple Hill Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday June 10,in Salisbury, Vt. He was born in Bennington, Vt., Dec. 14, 1929. He was the son of George and Hattie O'Connell Moffitt. He received his education in Shaftsbury and attended North Bennington High School. From 1949 to 1952 Don served as a Staff Sargeant in the Vermont National Guard Company C, 172nd Regiment of the 43rd Division. He married the former Lucille Morse. In earlier years Don was employed as a carpenter. He later worked on the Shaftsbury road crew, and as Road Foreman for many years. Donald was a hard worker, very energetic, colorful, and lots of fun, and above all very independent. He later married Debbie Johnson. For several years, Donald and Debbie had raised and showed "fancy chickens" at poultry shows all around the northeast. He raised Black Sumatras. He enjoyed local politics, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was very fond of his Australian Sheep dog "Daisy". Don was a wonderful brother and caring father. He leaves his wife, Deborah Johnson of North Bennington; four daughters, Virginia Vincent of North Bennington, Vt., Cecelia Dunham of Cambridge, N.Y., Sherry Bleau of Keene, N.H., and Melissa King of Underhill, Vt.; son, Pat Moffitt of Shaftsbury, Vt.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Sherman Moffitt of Peru, Vt., Harold Moffitt of Shaftsbury, Raymond Moffitt of Shaftsbury and Howard Moffitt of Georgia; two sisters, Joyce LaFlamme of Bennington, and Marion Croft of Shaftsbury, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister Lorraine Petras and three brothers, Duncan, Edward and Calvin Moffitt. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. The burial will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. A leisure potluck meal will follow back at Debbie's home. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday June 15, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Donald L.
