Donald E. Mears, Sr.

1943 - 2012 BENNINGTON, VT Donald E. Mears, Sr., 68, a resident of North Bennington Road died peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at his residence.

Born in Bennington on Dec. 25, 1943, son of the late Donald H. Mears Sr. and Anna (Sweet) Mear, he received his education in the Bennington schools. Don had been employed at various factories in the Bennington area for many years until the time of his illness. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, archery, traveling and vacations with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie (King) Mears of Bennington; a daughter, Casey Mears of Bennington; a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Denya Mears of Bennington and a son, Todd Mears of New Hampshire; three step-children, Erin King and Andrew King of Arlington and Michael King and his wife Jen of Sunderland; six grandchildren, Dakota, Kali, Bam, Brian, Hunter and Landry; two sisters, Marie Maynard and Helen Hilchey and her husband Stephen, both of Bennington; two brothers, James E. Mears Sr. of Berlin, NY and Roger Mears of Rutland and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Mears.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. where the Burial Office with Holy Eucharist will be offered by the Rev. Justin Lanier, Rector. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Hindsillville Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Donald E. Mears Sr.'s name may be made to either the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center or the Neuropathy Association through the office of the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
