Donald Arthur Pratt 1926-2012 NORTH BENNINGTON, VT Donald Arthur Pratt, 86, formerly of Bank Street in North Bennington, passed away Monday May 28, 2012 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt. Donald was born in Bennington, Vermont on April 6, 1926 the son of Arthur James and Myrtle Mae (Galloway) Pratt and attended local schools. Donald enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During World War II, serving in the South Pacific in Iwo Jima, Karamaretto, Okinawa and the Asiatic Theatre where he earned three battle stars and achieved the rank of corporal. He met his first wife, the former Frances Camille Maselli in Boston, a member of the United States Coast Guard, where he worked at the shipyard as a guard. They married in Boston in 1947and moved to Vermont. He worked as an auto mechanic and then went to work for Cushman Furniture and Johnson Controls where he retired in 1991. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of American Legion Post 13 Bennington, the Marine Corps. Association and the National Rifle Association. Donald is survived by his sons, Steve Pratt and his wife Roseann of North Bennington and Dan Pratt and his wife Daphne of West Virginia, his step-daughter Cheryl Andrus and her husband Rocky of Contoocook, New Hampshire, four grandchildren, Melissa McCurdy of Great Britain, Amanda Pratt of Rutland, Stephanie Adams of Burkburnet, Texas and Tyler Pratt of North Bennington, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Frances Pratt, who passed away in August, 1994 and his second wife the former Mary Louise Rice whom he married April 1, 1995. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Donald will be held Saturday morning June 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. Burial with military honors will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Friday evening June 1, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Donald?s memory may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund or American Legion Post 13, c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home P.O.
