AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- Mr. Donald Serafin, 65, of Cranes Hollow Road, Amsterdam, N.Y. died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born Feb. 21, 1938 in Amsterdam, N.Y. Educated locally, he was a lifelong area resident.

In the 1950s he served in the Army National Guard.

He was first employed by the former Olbrych’s Dairy in Amsterdam, N.Y.

He then worked several years for the General Electric company in Schenectady, N.Y. Lastly, he was a manager at the Passanno Paint Store in Amsterdam.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. He was also a member of the Reid Hill Fish & Game Club and a former member of IUE Local 301.

His wife, Suzanne Boryszewski Serafin died Aug. 16, 2003. He was predeceased by a son Donald Serafin and a step-son Joseph LaGray.

Survivors include: One son Raymond Serafin Sr., Johnstown, N.Y.; three brothers Len Serafin, Amsterdam, N.Y., Chet Serafin, Pennsylvania, Fred Serafin, Amsterdam, N.Y.; one sister, Dorothy Reginald, Bennington, Vt.; one grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Church, Cornell Street, Amsterdam, N.Y.

Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to the Cranesville Fire Department. Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, NY.
