Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Donald W. Davis, 83, a resident of Clyde Street, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Williamstown, Mass. Dec. 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Eugene and Charlotte Elizabeth (Frazee) Davis. He received his education in the Williamstown schools and was a 1940 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945.

He married the former Hilda Quackenbush in Bennington on July 20, 1946. Mrs. Davis died April 7, 1996.

In earlier years, Mr. Davis was employed at the former Polygraphic Company in North Bennington from 1946 until the time of the company’s closing. At that time he went to work at UST in Bennington, where he remained until the time of his retirement.

He was a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington and enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include three brothers and their wives, James and Amonda Davis of Bennington, Eugene Davis of Casper, Wyo. and Norman and Lynn Davis of New Smyrna, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Robert and Howard Davis.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
