BENNINGTON -- Mr. Donald Wise Perin Jr., 89, of Monument Avenue, died Thursday morning, Nov. 25, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Newton, Mass., on Feb. 28, 1915, son of the late Donald Wise Perin and Beatrice Franklin (Cobb) Perin Harlow. He attended schools in Brookline and Belmont, Mass. Mr. Perin graduated from Columbia College in New York City.

Mr. Perin was a veteran of World War II and served as a captain in the U.S. Army with the 373rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion in the Pacific theater of operations. He participated in the Battle of Luzon and received the Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, among his decorations.

Mr. Perin was employed as the executive vice president and later as the president emeritus of the Independent Insurance Agents of America in New York City until his retirement in 1983. At that time, he moved to Bennington.

His wife was the former Jean Mulcahy of North Adams, Mass., who died on Feb. 5, 2003. They were married on Dec. 5, 1942.

Survivors include one daughter, Betsy Perin de Gorgue, of Toms River, N.J.; two sons, William K. Perin of Mill Valley, Calif., and Donald W. Perin Jr. of Hazleton, Penn.; four grandchildren, Marshall Perin Heather Perin, Amy de Gorgue and Beth de Gorgue; one sister, Beatrice Curry of Vero Beach, Fla. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marsha Jordan and Melva Lubers.

Services for Mr. Perin will be private. Burial will be in the Southview Cemetery in North Adams, Mass. The Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapels at 74 Marshall St., North Adams, Mass., is in charge of the arrangements.
