Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Donat J. Ratelle were held from All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, chaplain.

Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Mildred Pierce. The pall was placed on the casket by a grandson, John ratelle, and Jerry Bellargeon. A crucifix was placed on the casket by Mr. Ratelle’s son, Jean “John” Ratelle. The scriptural readings were offered by James Main and Kathy Noll. The offertory gifts were presented by Mr. Ratelle’s daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jay Grube. Mr. Ratelle’s granddaughter, Eileen Main, offered a eulogy.

Bearers were Scott Devenow, Justin Devenow, Scott Krause, Stephen Grube, Jay Grube Jr. and Dan Frasier.

The burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Demasi offering the committal prayers. Military honors were accorded the World War II Navy veteran by Ralph Elwell and Roy Beardsley of the VFW Post 1332, who folded the American flag and presented it to Mrs. Ratelle’s wife, Yvette. Taps were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Mr. Ratelle, a resident of South Street in Bennington, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at his residence following a long illness. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
