Dora Lou Flanders Torrey

1936-2013 BENNINGTON, VERMONT Dora Lou Flanders Torrey, 77, a resident of East Road in Bennington died Monday November 25, 2013 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York following a brief illness. She was born in Guilford, Vermont March 15, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Charlotte (Hudson) Flanders. Dora received her education in Guilford, Vermont. She married Richard F. Torrey on June 20, 1952 in Brattleboro, VT. In earlier years Dora was employed at the Eveready Battery Company and was a stay at home mom until her children were of school age. Together Dora and Richard owned and operated Marra's Shoe Store in Bennington for over 50 years. The store continues to operate by Richard. Dora also had been employed at the Bijur Lubricating Company in Bennington for over 30 years from which she retired. Dora's family was her main interest. She also enjoyed reading, country music, traveling to Nashville, the Cape and Maine. Survivors include her husband Richard F. Torrey of Bennington. Her daughter Dixie L. Torrey Watson and a son Richard F. "Rich" Torrey, II both of Bennington. Two grandchildren, Torrey (Watson) King and her husband Frank King III and Alan "AJ" Watson Jr.; two great grandchildren, Kayla E. King and Carter F. King. A niece Tonya M. Barker and her husband Ron and a nephew Martin Chaffee and his wife Lynn and several great nieces and great nephews. She was pre-deceased by two brothers Arthur Flanders Jr. and Harold M. "Bill" Chafee and a sister Jeanne (Chaffee) Byrne. At the request of Mrs. Torrey there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
