SHAFTSBURY -- Doris Loretta Bailey, 82, a resident of Meadow Lane died at the Vermont Veterans Home on Tuesday morning, May 22, 2007, where she had resided for the past week. Mrs. Bailey was born in Fall River, Mass., on Dec. 6,1924. She was the daughter of the late David and Ida (Bonoyer) Berger. She was raised in Hartford, Conn., where she attendedlocal schools.

She was introduced to Lawrence W. Bailey, a native of Shaftsbury on a blind date, they soon fell in love and were married in Connecticut in June 1943. He relocated his new bride to the country, settling in Shaftsbury were she became a “full-time mom,” raising eight children and caring for the family home. Mr. Bailey died in 1982.

Mrs. Bailey was loved by all and will be remembered as a kind, loving and understanding woman, she would never show any pain, even during her husband’s illness. As a child she was adored by her father who treated her like a queen, their mutual admiration created a strong bond between them. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, completing word-search puzzles, picture puzzles and keeping up to date on her television soap operas, especially her favorites, General Hospital and The Young and Restless.

Mrs. Bailey leaves her five sons, Robert L. and wife Ann Marie Bailey of Bennington, Richard W. Bailey of Bennington, David G. and wife Kinue Bailey of Chazy, N.Y., Donald E. and wife Angel Bailey of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Raymond B. Bailey of Shaftsbury; three daughters Rose and husband Ernest LaRose of Poultney, Jean and husband Bill George of Bennington and Nancy Bailey and friend Bill Murphy of Shaftsbury; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, on Friday, May 25 at 11 a.m., with The Rev. Michael A. DeMasi officiating. Mrs. Bailey will be laid to rest next to her husband, Lawrence, in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be present.

Should friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Mrs. Bailey may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home-Activities Fund in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, Vt 05201.
