BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Dorothea F. Peckham, 85, wife of Robert O. Peckham, a resident of Merson Street, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in Bennington, July 26, 1917, she was the daughter of the late James and Ann (McGuire) Fox. She received her early education at St. Francis de Sales Academy and later attended St. Joseph’s Business College.

Mr. and Mrs. Peckham were married on July 27, 1944 at St. Francis de Sales Rectory. Mr. and Mrs. Peckham resided in the Albany and Troy, N.Y. areas for several years before returning to Bennington.

In earlier years she was employed in the admitting office of St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, N.Y. and in the offices of the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, N.Y. at the time of her retirement.

Her hobbies and interests included knitting, crocheting, and she enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Robert O. Peckham of Bennington; a daughter, Ann Mary Peckham Stopera of Cohoes, N.Y.; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Mrs. Peckham was pre- deceased by three brothers, Lloyd Fox, William Fox and Joseph Fox.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, June 2 at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be celebrated by Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, c.s.c., associate pastor.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Sunday at 2 p.m.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Peckham may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Disease Association or the Patient Activities Fund at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
