NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Dorothea C. “Dot” McCue, 85, widow of Gerald M. McCue, a resident of Rollin Mattison Road, North Bennington, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. For the past six months Dot had resided at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Born in Derby, Conn. Sept. 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Mary (Keenan) Conway.

Gerry and Dot were married Oct. 26, 1940, in Bridgeport, Conn., and moved to Shaftsbury in 1959. Gerry died Jan. 23, 1997.

Dot was a very active member of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington where she taught religious education for many years. She was well known throughout the community for her many years of volunteering as a gray lady at Putnam Memorial Hospital and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She received a QUEST Award from Southwestern Vermont Heal th Care in 1997 in recognition of her outstanding dedication to the Alzheimer’s Support Group at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Kevin G. McCue and his wife Joan McCue of California, Dennis M. McCue and his wife Jane Dailey McCue of Florida; Kathleen M. McCue of New York and Elizabeth M. McCue Thompson and her husband Kent Thompson of Georgia; a very close friend, Al Hohmann of Salem, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Scott McCue, Melissa McCue, Elizabeth McCue Kenneally and her husband Terence Kenneally, Karen McCue Nadile and her husband Matthew Nadile and Mary McCue Rohrig and her husband Eric Rohrig; two great-grandchildren Caroline McCue Kenneally and Dennis Gerard Kenneally; a sister, Rita Burleigh of Florida; and a brother, William Conway of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. McCue was predeceased by a sister, Catherine McPadden.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at 10:45 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington at 11:30 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the prayer service.

Burial will take place in the family lot in St. John’s Cemetery, North Bennington. In lieu of flowers contributions in Dot McCue’s memory may be made to Bennington Project Independence through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
