Dorothy B. Ryan 1921 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY Mrs. Dorothy B. Ryan, 86, widow of Francis V. Ryan, a former long time resident of Cleveland Avenue, Shaftsbury, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Fla., following a long illness. Born in Cambridge, Vt., Nov. 4, 1921, daughter of the late Albert and Grace Bocash Burnor. Dorothy received her education in the Fairfax schools and was a 1939 graduate of B.F.A. Academy. She later graduated from nursing school in Rutland. Mr. & Mrs. Ryan were married Feb. 6, 1942, in Fairfax. Frank died in 1992. Dorothy had been employed as a licensed practical nurse for many years from 1941 until the time of her retirement. She worked at several health care facilities in the area including Prospect Nursing Home, Putnam Memorial Hospital and the Vermont Veterans Home. She enjoyed traveling, playing Bingo and time spent with her family. The mother of 10 children, including three sets of twins, Dorothy leaves two daughters, Shirley Young of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Jennifer Fungaroli of Lantana, Fla.; five sons, Richard of Corbin, Kentucky, Donald of Shelburne, Robert of Shaftsbury, James of Hubert, North Carolina and Jeffrey of Lantana; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Ryan was predeceased by two sons, Thomas and David, and by two brothers, Earl and Garold Burnor. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Jinno, pastor of the North Bennington Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery. Should friends desire contributions in Dorothy B.
