WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Dorothy Billings Hickey, 90, of Woodcock Road, Williamstown, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington, Vt.

She was born in Greenfield on May 13, 1915 a daughter of the late Samuel Partridge Billings and Minnie (Harris) Billings. She graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1933 and from the New England Baptist School of Nursing in 1936.

She was a registered nurse and did private duty nursing at the New England Baptist. She married James Walter Hickey in 1939; they were later divorced. They moved to Williamstown in 1946. In 1948 she purchased the main house of the Sweet Brook Farm and established Sweet Brook Nursing Home. In 1968 she joined with local doctors and lawyers to build a new 80-bed facility for her nursing home business on Cold Spring Road. She was a licensed nursing home administrator and served on the board of directors of Sweet Brook. She over saw the multiply additions to the nursing facility, the development of the building of Sweetwood Continuing Care Retirement Community and the purchase and subsequent additions to Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, Vt. She was active in the business until the sale of Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Health System in 1999.

She was an avid button collector and belonged to the State button societies of New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. She also pursed a life long interest in gardening.

Survivors include one daughter, K. Elaine Neely and her husband, Thomas W. Neely, of Williamstown; a granddaughter, K. Bervard Neely of Denver, Colo.; one grandson, Matthew P. Neely of Eastchester, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Francis Sidney Billings, George Morton Billings and Forrest Cowles Billings. Funeral services for Dorothy Billings Hickey will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Williamstown with the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector, as the celebrant.

Burial will follow in the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery, South Williamstown. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Floral tributes may be sent or memorial donations are suggested for the Crescent Manor Scholarship Fund, Crescent Manor Care Center, 312 Crescent Blvd, Bennington, VT 05201, or through the funeral home.
