Obituary Condolences

Dorothy Costabile MANCHESTER On August 5, 2008, Dorothy Costabile passed away at the Equinox Village in Manchester. She was born in New York City to Mary and James Drew. She resided in Bronxville, N.Y., where she raised her family and belonged to several hospital auxiliary groups. She moved to Manchester with her husband, the late Dr. Richard J. Costabile, where they spent the last years of their lives "in beautiful Manchester" as they would say. A beloved wife, mother and champion golfer, Dorothy, to her close friends and family "Dot," always looked beautiful, put on a great smile and was always on the go. She and her husband were members of the Manchester Golf Club and the Leewood Golf Club in Westchester, N.Y., for many years. Dorothy supported her neighborhood by banding together with her neighbors on many issues that affected the area, and they earned the name "The Longview Gang." She was married to Richard Costabile for over 59 years. During World War II, she faithfully followed her husband from New York to Florida, often driving herself, until he was shipped overseas to be part of the medical division for General Patton. She leaves her only child, Virginia Penzabene of Manchester Center; her two grandchildren, Victoria Karan of Los Angeles, and Jacqueline Karan of Postchester, N.Y.; a nephew and niece, Danny and Dorothy O'Brien; several close and beloved cousins; a daughter-in-law, Maryanne Costabile; a brother-in-law, Louis Costabile, and many wonderful, caring and supportive friends. Her son, Richard Costabile, known best as "Dick," passed away last year and her husband, Richard, passed in 2005. The family would like to sincerely and personally thank the Staff at The Equinox Village and the Manchester Health Services for their exceptional care, support and help that went above and beyond what we ever expected. Manchester is truly blessed by these wonderful people and their essence. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be in Dellwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the BREWSTER FUNERAL HOME, 34 Park Place, on Friday, Aug. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Donations to the Manchester Health Services and the Oncology Dept. at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center would be a wonderful way to remember "Dot."
