MANCHESTER/EAST DORSET -- Dorothy E. Hamilton, 83, a longtime resident of East Dorset, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at her Equinox Terrace residence in Manchester. She was born July 19, 1920 in Pawlet, the daughter of Herbert and Nettie (Jackson) Greene. She grew up in the Pawlet area and attended local schools. She graduated from the Granville High School.

She was married to the late Howard Brophy and to the late Purvis Hamilton. Dorothy was a hard worker and shared much of the work on the family farm in her younger years. She lived in East Dorset most of her life, raising a family. She was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was elected into the Charlotte Morris past Matron and Patron Association. She was the grand representative to Kansas and a Grand Esther. She was also a member of the East Dorset Congregational Church, the Home Dem and the East Dorset Cemetery Association. In her free time Dorothy enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and the annual deer hunt.

She is survived by her son Harvey Brophy and his wife Dottie of East Dorset; her daughters, Maureen Ozanik of Quebec, Canada and Beverly Beltram of California; her brothers, Ralph Green of New York and Nelson Greene of West Pawlet; her sisters, Hazel McHale of Greenwich, N.Y. and Leona McWayne of Dorset; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Gary Brophy, her daughter Joann Ellwood and her brothers Vincent and Herbert P. Greene.

The funeral will be held at the East Dorset Congregational Church on Tuesday, July 6, at 11 a.m. A graveside service of committal will follow in the South Village Cemetery in East Dorset. The Rev. Larry Jenny will officiate.
