BENNINGTON -- Dorothy E. Gates, 79, a resident of Harrington’s Trailer Park in Shaftsbury, died Friday, June 15, 2007, in Bennington following a long illness.

She was born in New Haven, Conn., May 25, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Warren Williams and Florence (DuBois) Sulle. Dorothy received her education in New Haven.

Dorothy has resided in the Pownal and Bennington area for 55 years. Her children and grandchildren were her main interest. Dorothy also enjoyed bird watching and her favorite was the red cardinal.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Boell and her husband Joseph of Manchester, N.H., and Linda Blair of Oneida, N.Y.; two sons Lindan “Sonny” Bourtell and his wife Susan of Bennington, and Michael Gates of Shaftsbury; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Walker of Shaftsbury, Stoney Walker of Manchester, N.H., David and Randy Blair of Oneida, N.Y., and Barbara McKeigan of Albany, N.Y.; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was pre-deceased by two sons David and Bruce Gates and a brother Leo Williams.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday June 19, 2007, at 1 p.m.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery Pownal.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Monday, June 18, 2007, from 7 to 9 p.m.
