PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Mrs. Dorothy H. “Dottie” Proper, 75, of Westchester Avenue, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2004, at Berkshire Medical Center. She has been a patient at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield for the past three years. Born on July 15, 1929 in Pittsfield, she was a daughter of the late George Butler Sr. and Ruth Borden Butler. She attended schools in Pittsfield. She had been employed at one time for MacKenzie Plastics on Pecks Road in Pittsfield as a machine operator and lastly as an assembler at Berkshire Computer in Lenox. A homemaker, she was a member of the former 59s club of Pittsfield, a member of the Pittsfield Senior Center, and she enjoyed playing bingo and going to bazaars and penny socials.

She was a communicant of Saint Joseph’s Church. She was the wife of Myron A. Proper Sr., whom she married July 7, 1952. He died Oct. 17, 1992.

She is survived by three sons, Charles F. Proper of Pownal, Vt., Myron A. Proper Jr. of Cheshire and Wayne J. Proper Sr. of Pittsfield; two daughters, Ruth M. Buniger of Westminster, Colo. and Christine A. Brasie of Pittsfield; a sister, Eleanor Gardner of Pittsfield; a brother, George Butler Jr. of Topsfield; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Dorothy H. “Dottie” Proper will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to Friends of Renal Dialysis in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by a brother, Wesley Butler.
