MANCHESTER -- Dorothy Hinkley Treat, 93, a resident of Treat Hill Road in Manchester, died Friday afternoon Oct. 27, 2006, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland.

She was born in South Royalton on Oct. 1, 1913. She was one of eleven children and the daughter of Harland Ainsworth and Maybelle (Danforth) Hinkley.

Dorothy received her education in South Royalton schools, graduating from Windsor High School, class of 1931.

Dorothy married Edwin King Treat in Belmont, N.Y., on June 8, 1935, and together they worked through the Depression years and beyond.

She was an integral part of her husband’s veterinary practice, which they started together in 1935. Dorothy had an eye for detail and was considered a perfectionist.

Hooked rugs she created won several local and regional awards.

She loved working at many types of crafts, including ceramics, hooked rugs, shell mirrors, lamps and lampshades, quilting, dried wreaths and flower arrangements. She was a member of the East Dorset Congregational Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Manchester Grange.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Treat, and his wife, Sally, of Manchester, her daughter, Betty-Jean Goff, and her husband, Jerry, of Manchester; four brothers, Stanley and Roger Hinkley of Cornish, N.H., George Hinkley of Springfield, and Evered Hinkley of Ascutney; two sisters, Beverly Thomas of South Royalton, and Barbara Green of Monson, Mass.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-stepgrandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, who died in April of 1992 and four brothers: Lawrence, Arthur, Robert and Richard Hinkley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, Oct. 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the East Dorset Congregational Church. The Rev. Lawrence Jenney will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in Delwood Cemetery in Manchester.

The family will receive friends at Brewster Funeral Service 34 Park Place, Manchester, on Monday evening Oct. 30, 2006. from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial gifts in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the East Dorset Congregational Church roof fund, care of Brewster Funeral Service P.O.
