BENNINGTON -- Dorothy Leola Hill, 82, a former resident of Silver Street, died on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation. Prior to relocating to the Center she had resided for some time at the Rivers Edge Community Care Home.

Mrs. Hill was born in Woodstock on Aug. 22, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Leola (Weaver) Sumner, and grew up in Woodstock, where she attended local schools. She was married to John T. Hill Jr. on June 20, 1943 in Woodstock. They moved to the Bennington area in 1955, where Mr. Hill had worked on area dairy farms. Mr. Hill died in 1973.

After raising her family, Mrs. Hill went to work at the Everready Battery Co., now Energizer, from where she retired. She was a charter member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington, and assisted the church in many capacities. Her hobbies and interests included knitting, crocheting, reading, her grandchildren and cooking.

Mrs. Hill is survived by a son, Dennis W. Hill of Wheaton, Ill.; three daughters, Margaret I Adams of Dalmatia, Pa., Beverly A. Johnson of Susquehanna, Pa., and Wilma J. Sinclair of North Pownal; three sisters, Patricia Brozza of New Hampshire, Pauline Gatz of Plymouth, N.H., and Lois Bentley of Merced, Calif., nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nices, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Stanley W. Sinclair.

A memorial service for Mrs. Hill will take place on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home. Conducting the service will be her son-in-law, Pastor Fred Johnson of the First Baptist Church of Susquehanna, Pa. He will be assisted by the Reverend Edwin Blue, pastor of the Missionary Alliance Church. Burial will follow in the Hill family lot in Park Lawn cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.
