Dorothy E. Madison 1915-2011 BENNINGTON Dorothy E. Madison 96, formerly of Bennington, died at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach on April 25, 2011. She was born April 19, 1915 in Bennington, to A. Sidney Edson and Katharine L Edson. She was a Graduate of North Adams State Teachers College and Bridgewater State College. She married Sidney A. Madison on February 22, 1948 in Bennington , they relocated to Norfolk, VA. Where they resided for nearly 40 years. Dorothy was the head of the Social Studies Department for the Norfolk Junior High School System and Supervised the Hampton Roads School Systems Televised Instruction Program. She also traveled extensively, was an avid Bridge and Canasta player, supported education through scholarships, served as the treasurer for her national sorority and had a keen interest in genealogy. She was a descendant of the Abraham Lincoln family and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dorothy will be especially remembered for her keen interest in financial affairs, staunch support of education and her independent spirit. She leaves her brother Albert Edson of Eliot, Maine and nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held at Westminster Canterbury . She will be laid to rest in the Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington on Wednesday May 11 at 1 p.m. with graveside services conducted by the Reverend Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington.
