MANCHESTER -- Dorothy May Squire, 92, a lifelong resident of Manchester died, Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

She was born in Manchester July 30, 1911, the daughter of Edmund and Katherine (Wyman) Bushee. She received her education in local schools and graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary class of 1932.

She married Robert F. Squires July 26, 1932 in Manchester, where they stayed and raised a family. Robert died in 1989. Dorothy did domestic work at several Manchester village homes, including “Hildene” for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 50 years and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Manchester. Among her most valued treasures were her cat “Teddie,” her bingo buddies and her beautiful flower gardens.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Gutheridge and Katherine Griffis, both of Manchester; her sister Mary E. Thompson of Bennington; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester. The Rev. Deborah Kamm, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate.
