1926 - 2015 BENNINGTON Dorothy T. McGurn, 88, a former resident of Gage St., passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Vermont Veterans Home surrounded by her family. She was born in Colchester, VT December 16, 1926. She was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Sheehan Kelley. Dorothy received her education in Burlington. She married Richard McGurn on October 7th, 1946. Mr. McGurn passed away in 1982. Although she worked in many places in her life time her last employment was with the Magic Sleigh in Bennington where she kept her granddaughters supplied with all the newest dolls. Dorothy was a women of tremendous faith who loved reading, riding in the country scouting for deer, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She would tell you "her family was her life". Survivors a sister, Joan Spofford of Schenectady, N.Y. a sister-in-law, Sondra Kelley of San Diego, her children and their spouses, JoAnn McGarrahan and Michael of Bennington, VT, Kate Sanchez and Juan of Rutland, VT, Thomas McGurn and Kelli of Bennington, William McGurn and Gail of Bennington and Mary Wassick and Robert of Gorham, Maine; 15 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday, July 13, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A service of remembrance and sharing will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday at 11 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:30 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. If friends desire contributions in memory of Dorothy K. McGurn may be made to Sacred Heart School through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
