HOUSTON -- Mrs. Dorothy June Shaw Carelli, 85, wife of Frank J. Carelli, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at their home in Houston. Mrs. Carelli was born on June 25, 1920, in the Jamison Community, Grayson County, Texas, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Shaw and Mary Alice Ireland Shaw. She was grandniece of John Ireland, statesman and former governor of Texas. She is a descendant of Thomas Spearman, patriot, Caroline County, Va., and John Speareman, a member of the crew of the first supply ship into Jamestown Colony.

She attended school and lived in Van Alstyne, Texas. Mrs. Carelli graduated as valedictorian of her Tom Bean High School class and attended North Texas State Teacher’s College, now University of North Texas. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Jamison. During World War II, Mrs. Carelli was appointed administrative executive assistant to Col. James Anderson, commanding officer of Ashburn General Veterans Hospital, McKinney, Texas. There she met her loving husband, Frank J. Carelli, 1st Lieutenant, Army Air Corps. They married in 1947 in Rockwall County, Texas, near Dallas.

Mrs. Carelli and her husband were longtime residents of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., where they raised their children and owned and operated a Ford dealership, Haynes Bros., Inc. In Hoosick Falls, Mrs. Carelli was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school, and was president of the Women’s Society. In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Carelli retired to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where they lived for 22 years.

Surviving are her devoted husband, Frank J. Carelli; a sister, Mrs. Vivian E. Shaw McMahan of Arlington, Texas; a son, Frank J. Carelli Jr.; her adoring daughter, Mrs. Carol A. Carelli-Sennett of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Carelli-Sennett of Orlando, Fla., Rebecca A. Carelli-Sennett of Richmond, and Caitlin and John Carelli of Delmar, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the Baylor Geriatric Clinic, c/o Dr. Susan Williams.

A graveside service and interment will be held at Arlington National Veterans Cemetery, Va. pending family notification. Woody Funeral Home, Parham Road, Richmond, has charge of the arrangements.
