Obituary Condolences


POWNAL -- Dorothy E. (Tifft) Sobol, 75, of Pownal, passed away July 18, 2007, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Dorset, on Nov. 12, 1931, the daughter of Ralph and Lydia (Bush) Shores. She grew up attending schools in Dorset and Rawsonville. She married Henry “Hank” Sobol in Bondville in 1977. Hank passed away on Dec. 4, 1997.

Dorothy worked in various sewing factories. She owned and operated a craft shop in Londonderry called “Wicked Witch.” She did a lot of craft work with sewing and was especially noted for her quilts. She also gave lessons in quilting. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling with seniors groups on tours. For the past several years however, her grandchildren were her main focus.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Keith Marcotte of Wells, Lydia and Tony Hart of Pownal, Elizabeth and Greg Cole of Brookline, and Carol Briggs and Ralph Tobin of Pownal; her brothers Ralph Shore of Carthage, Tenn., and Alvin Shores of Manchester; sisters Anna Keyes of Terryville, Conn., Marion Burke of Whitehall, N.Y.; her ex-husband Kenneth Tifft and his companion Jane of Londonderry; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Kenneth Tifft in 1950, a sister Caroline Moffit and a brother Charles Shores.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 21, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Brewster Funeral Home, 34 Park Place, Manchester. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Brewster Funeral Service PO Box 885 Manchester, VT 05255.
