SUNDERLAND -- Dorothy Charlotte (Fewkes) Vondy, 81, a resident of Route 7A in Sunderland, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at her home.

She was born in Bordentown, N.J., on July 24, 1925, the daughter of Theodore R. Fewkes and Alice M. (Lippincott) Fewkes. Dorothy received her education in New Jersey, graduating from William McFarland High School in Bordentown, class of 1943.

Dorothy worked in the accounting department for both George W. Swift Company and Ocean Spray. Upon moving to Vermont in May of 1971 with her husband Franklin and building their home in Sunderland, Dorothy worked at Orvis in various departments for 12 years retiring in December of 1986. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bordentown, active in choir and also as a Sunday School teacher.

After marrying her husband, Franklin Vondy, in June of 1947, she aided him in many Boy Scout activities. Dorothy was also a longtime member of Harned Fowler VFW Post 6471 Auxiliary in Manchester, First Baptist Church of Manchester and a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Green Mountain Council, and member at large for many years. She loved to do all types of handwork. She enjoyed making afghans, bedspreads and baby items all of which were given to friends. Her joy was in the making and giving. Dorothy and her husband had an outstanding love for Vermont and was their goal to retire and come to Vermont.

Dorothy is survived by two sister-in-laws and nephews and her extended family, Darlene and Joan Young of Arlington, Herb Wessner of Manchester Center, Linda Flederbach of Bennington, Tracy Wesley of Hebron, N.Y., Ginger Brown Pizzadili of Delaware and Jan and Ray (Buster) Bowen of Sunderland. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Feb. 12, 1999.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held Thursday afternoon Jan. 11, 2007, at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Manchester. The Rev. Robert Carpenter will conduct the service. Interment will be in the family lot in Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester. There are no visiting hours.
