Douglas Brunina Obituary
Douglas Brunina

1923 - 2014 BENNINGTON Douglas Paul Brunina, 91, a resident of Jefferson Heights, peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The son of Francis and Mabel (Sweet) Brunina, Doug was born in Bennington on June 6, 1923 and grew up on County Street. He was a 1941 graduate of Bennington High School and was employed in earlier years at EZ Mills in Bennington. In 1951, he accepted a position at Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass. where he worked until he became disabled in 1969. Doug enjoyed playing his clarinet and saxophone in a jazz band and soon after, in 1950, Doug met and married Theresa "Terry" Rappazzo in Bennington in a marriage that would last for 64 years. Doug and Terry were soon parents and started a life-long passion of camping, which they enjoyed until his death. They traveled throughout the country visiting several parks and stopping in to see their children. For the past twenty years, they ventured to Florida during the winter months where they became friends to many. One who had the talent and know-how to fix any appliance or vehicle, Doug was a mentor to his friends and family, lending his expertise on anything mechanical, automotive or electrical. Doug is survived by his wife, Terry, of Bennington; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret "Peg" and Tony Murtaugh, of Schodak, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Mona Brunina, of Taylors, S.C.; and a son, Richard Brunina, of Clifton, Va.; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; his former daughter-in-law, Mel Brunina, of Bennington; several nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by a sister and brother, Velma Harris and Francis Brunina. Doug was well loved and will be missed. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR SON FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer, and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
