Obituary Condolences

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. -- Duane “Bud” Davis, a resident of Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., passed away June 28, 2007, after a brief illness. Mr. Davis was born in Bennington on Jan. 23, 1926. He was the son of the late Elbert and Marion Winslow Davis of Bennington.

Upon graduation in 1943 from Bennington High School, Mr. Davis enlisted in the Navy at age 17. He served on the pocket battleship Alaska in the Atlantic area of operations during World War II.

Mr. Davis married Bernice Lester of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., in June 1945. Following his service discharge, Mr. Davis worked in Bennington before he and his wife took positions with JC Penney Company at the firm’s corporate headquarters in Manhattan. At JC Penny Company they helped develop a department which became a subsidiary company, Consumer Interest International. Mr. Davis was executive vice president and his wife was vice president and director of operations. Their work led them all over the world. They eventually relocated the company to Miami in 1985. After retiring from the company after 28 years, Mr. Davis continued to serve on several boards in the Miami area.

Mr. Davis loved life. He took an acute interest in everything and everyone, as his many friends, as well as his creations in architecture, furniture and clothing design attest to. He particularly enjoyed swimming in the ocean, walking on the beach and ballroom dancing with his wife.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice of Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.; a sister, Eilene Peckham of North Bennington; a sister in law, Edith Beaumont of Bennington; and several nieces and nephews.

Should friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Davis may be made to a charity of their choice.
