1932-2010 BENNINGTON Mr. Duane F. Muckle, 77, a resident of McCarthy Acres in North Bennington died Friday evening, Jan. 1, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in Bennington, Jan. 4, 1932, he was the son of Frederick and Henrietta Kelly Muckle. Duane received his education in North Bennington and was a 1950 graduate of North Bennington High School. On Sept. 2, 1950, Duane joined the Navy where he served until he was honorably discharged on July 1, 1954.
He married the former Mary Bates on June 18, 1960, at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Cambridge, N.Y. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in June.
In earlier years Duane was employed as a butcher at Powers Market in North Bennington. He was also a well known salesman for Berkshire Frosted Foods, Albany Frosted Foods and Sisco. For several years he and his wife, Mary, worked at the Green Mountain Race Track. His last employment was as a butcher at Harrington's Country Store in Shaftsbury from which he retired due to ill health.
Duane enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, animals (especially his dogs), square dancing where he was the former president of the Catamount Gadabouts, and traveling. His family was his main interest. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post 13.
He leaves his wife, Mary Muckle of North Bennington; son, Duane F. Muckle Jr. and his wife, Lisa Novotny Muckle, of Groton, Conn.; daughter, Kelly Rehm-Brandt and her husband, Mogens Rehm-Brandt, of Bennington; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brie Muckle of Groton, Danica Rehm-Brandt and Marie Rehm-Brandt, both of Bennington; step-grandchildren, Monica Rehm-Brandt, Annika Rehm-Brandt, Alexander Seierstad and Jonny Rehm-Brandt, all of Norway; step- great-grandchildren, Patrick Rehm-Brandt, Harley Seierstad, Isak Seierstad and twins, Heike and Haken Seierstad, all of Norway; sister, Madeline Dalton of North Bennington, and brother, Gordon Muckle of Bennington.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Muckle, and a sister, Audna Parker.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance
A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m.
