SHAFTSBURY -- Duane Thomas Shultz, 67, a resident of Lower East Road, died at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on Tuesday evening, Oct. 19, 2004, following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington on March 27, 1937, and was the son of the late Dexter G. and M. Lillian (Brundage) Shultz. He received his education in local schools, and attended business school. Mr. Shultz was a former member of the Army Reserves and National Guard. He was self-employed and ran a flooring and wall-covering business for several years. Mr. Shultz has also ran an auto body shop. He married the former Joann Hayden on March 24, 1973 at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. Mrs. Shultz survives. In earlier years, Mr. Shultz had been an avid outdoorsman and had enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice fishing.

Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Duane W. Shultz of Baltimore, Md. and Dexter V. Shultz of Shaftsbury; three daughters, Louise Turner Shultz of Kent Island, Md., Alicia Gleason Shultz of Albany, N.Y. and Mary Jo Shultz of Springfield, Mass.; one brother, Dexter Shultz of Nahant, Mass., and one sister, Janice Lefevre of Brewerton, N.Y.; three grandchildren, four nieces and four nephews. A Mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated at St. John’s Cemetery, with burial in the family lot. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. At Mr. Shultz’ request, there will be no calling hours.
