Duncan M. Turner 1939-2011 BENNINGTON, VT Duncan M. Turner, 71, a resident of Cyr Court in Bennington and a winter resident of Edgewater, Florida died Saturday January 15, 2011 at the Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach, Florida after a brief illness. Duncan was born in Greenock, Scotland May 30, 1939. He was the son of the late James and Anne McAlister Turner. He received his early education in Scotland and was a graduate of Bennington High School. He later attended William and Mary College. Duncan proudly served his country as a United States Army Ranger achieving the rank of Warrant Officer. He married the former Joyce Dougherty of Hoosick Falls, NY in September of 1962. Duncan was a retired Teamster and was previously employed with Fairbanks Express in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., United Parcel Service and St. Johnsburry. Duncan enjoyed the many friendships he had in both the Vermont and Florida communities and in particular his hunting club in French Hollow. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and spending time with their grand children who he loved dearly. He was previously a Deputy Sherrif in Bennington County was a Life member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks # 567, as well as the Royal Canadian Legion. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joyce Turner, Sons Eric and wife Michele Turner of Jacksonville, Fla., Cailean and wife ChristiTurner of Cary, N.C., Neal and wife Megan Turner of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Four grandchildren (Ian, Sarah, Gavin, Neal Thomas), a sister, Sandra Howard, two nephews, AJ DeBell and Kyle Howard FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Saturday January 22, 2011 at 10 a.m. The burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
